Closed crypto exchanges. The record behind each exit.
Track crypto exchange closures, the reasons behind them and what happened to customers. Search documented cases, compare timelines and follow the evidence.
The closure notice says remaining positions would be closed and post-closure access would be limited to balances, records and withdrawals. Account fees and additional withdrawal checks may apply.
Legal & evidence note
The stated closure reason is a strategic business decision. This classification does not assess separate historic legal proceedings.
The notice describes withdrawal-only access after P2P closure. It recommended withdrawing by 23 August 2026; this was not described as a final platform-access deadline. Receiving services may restrict transfers.
Legal & evidence note
This entry attributes the explanation to the operator. It does not independently determine the scope of sanctions or establish insolvency or fraud.
Paxful attributed its closure to the lasting effects of historic misconduct and unsustainable compliance-remediation costs. Its announcement said the decision was not due to insolvency.
The marketplace closed while limited withdrawal services continued. The official withdrawal site explains eligibility and restrictions; trading availability should not be inferred from a working login.
Legal & evidence note
Separately, Paxful Holdings pleaded guilty to federal criminal conspiracies in December 2025 and was sentenced in February 2026. These are company proceedings, not a fraud rating of every user or employee.
Creditors sought insolvency protection after they could not withdraw assets following a reported June 2024 hack. The UK court wound up Lykke Corp UK Limited.
The March 2025 court orders appointed liquidators to investigate and preserve assets. This entry concerns the UK company, rather than treating every Lykke group entity as one proceeding.
Legal & evidence note
Insolvency and a reported hack do not establish a fraud conviction. The source is an account by counsel involved in the creditor application.
DMM states that all customer accounts and deposited yen and crypto were transferred to SBI VC Trade on 8 March 2025. This is a service closure with a successor account provider.
Legal & evidence note
An asset transfer is distinct from a finding that customer balances were permanently lost or that the operator committed fraud.
New registrations and advertisements stopped first, followed by new trades. The announced final website shutdown was in November 2024. Both brands are counted once because they shared the wind-down.
Legal & evidence note
The announcement is not evidence of insolvency or fraud. More specific claims about the cause would go beyond the cited notice.
Bittrex Global announced that it would wind down. The cited closure reporting did not establish a detailed reason; the US affiliate’s earlier explanation should not be substituted for it.
Trading stopped on 14 August, a month before the final website and withdrawal deadline. The operator warned that remaining funds would not be retrievable after that deadline.
Legal & evidence note
This record reports the operator’s explanation. It does not establish that all customers withdrew or that losses were zero.
The US closure was separate from the later Bittrex Global shutdown. The original withdrawal deadline and subsequent bankruptcy claims process were different milestones.
Legal & evidence note
A bankruptcy filing is not a fraud conviction. The closure reason is attributed to the company rather than presented as a regulatory conclusion.
Trading and normal wallet use ended, with withdrawal access retained. The current notice encourages users with remaining balances to request withdrawal; transaction fees still apply.
Legal & evidence note
The trading closure does not by itself imply fraud, bankruptcy or the disappearance of every customer balance.
International authorities disrupted Bitzlato’s infrastructure in an enforcement operation concerning illicit money transmission and anti-money-laundering failures.
The infrastructure takedown disrupted the exchange. In December 2023, its majority owner agreed to dissolve Bitzlato. Any later withdrawal arrangements are separate from a reopening of trading.
Legal & evidence note
Anatoly Legkodymov pleaded guilty to operating a money transmitting business that transmitted illicit funds. That plea does not establish wrongdoing by every customer.
New trades ended after registrations stopped. The announcement distinguished its non-custodial wallet interface from its marketplace: ending trade creation did not itself transfer customers’ crypto to another custodian.
Legal & evidence note
This was a stated voluntary business exit. The cited reporting does not establish insolvency or fraud, or guarantee that historic wallet tools remain available today.
Trading ended and customer recovery moved into legal proceedings. Bankruptcy distributions are not the same as continuous withdrawal access or recovery of the original number of tokens.
Legal & evidence note
Bankman-Fried was convicted of fraud and conspiracy and sentenced in 2024. The cited June 2026 appellate judgment upheld the conviction and sentence; it is distinct from the estate’s claims process.
The operator announced a closure and a process intended to return remaining funds. That announcement does not demonstrate that every customer was repaid.
Legal & evidence note
The hack explanation was the operator’s claim as reported at the time; no independent fraud verdict is asserted here.
The exchange announced its closure in February and set 1 March as its trading-suspension and withdrawal deadline. Reports of user difficulties are not equivalent to a proven legal finding.
Legal & evidence note
The surviving market-directory notice links the original announcement. This entry does not convert complaints into an adjudicated fraud claim.
FCoin disclosed a large asset shortfall and an inability to meet withdrawals. Its founder attributed the gap to system errors and excessive transaction-mining rewards.
Customer withdrawal complaints and a planned unprofitable-business shutdown led the BCSC to seek an interim receiver. Later proceedings addressed misuse of customer deposits.
The receiver secured the premises on 1 November 2019. The BCSC later reported that the companies were dissolved in 2020 without assets.
Legal & evidence note
In March 2026 the BCSC reported the director’s admission of responsibility for the companies’ fraud. The regulator also said he did not personally misappropriate funds or benefit from the misconduct.
Ontario Securities Commission staff concluded that Quadriga’s collapse resulted from fraud by co-founder Gerald Cotten, including misuse of customer assets.
By 5 February 2019 the platform had ceased operations and entered creditor protection. The later OSC report went beyond the initial explanation about inaccessible wallets.
Legal & evidence note
The fraud conclusion is explicitly attributed to the OSC staff investigation. It is not described as a criminal conviction of Cotten.
The original BTC-e service ceased operating. Later brands or successor claims should not be treated as uninterrupted operation of the original platform.
Legal & evidence note
The record identifies the 2017 charges and FinCEN enforcement. Charges alone are allegations, and this classification is not a fraud probability.
Cryptsy failed amid withdrawal problems, an asset shortfall and a claimed earlier hack. A later indictment alleged theft and concealment by founder Paul Vernon.
Customer access failed and receivership and civil recovery proceedings followed. The record uses month precision rather than inventing an exact shutdown day.
Legal & evidence note
The January 2022 DOJ release describes allegations, not a conviction. The source explicitly preserves the presumption of innocence.
The exchange stopped trading in February 2014. Claims and trustee repayments are separate from exchange operations and do not constitute a reopening.
Legal & evidence note
The filing date is used as the consistently documented milestone. The cited theft charges are allegations against the named defendants, not a blanket conviction of all exchange staff.
Trading halted and the operator said it intended to return funds. This announcement is distinct from evidence that all balances were ultimately returned.
Legal & evidence note
Banking access was the stated immediate reason. A prior security incident should not be confused with the date of the final closure.
Paxful attributed its closure to the lasting effects of historic misconduct and unsustainable compliance-remediation costs. Its announcement said the decision was not due to insolvency.

This is an expanding directory of permanently closed trading platforms and separately closed exchange entities. It is not an exhaustive count of every failed crypto business. Temporary outages, token delistings and lending-only companies are outside the current scope.
01
Date the actual event
Each record states which milestone is dated. Announcements, last trades, withdrawal deadlines, court filings and liquidator appointments can happen months apart. Month-only dates remain month-only.
02
Make the evidence visible
Official notices describe what operators said. Court and regulator sources describe legal proceedings and findings. Liquidator or counsel sources cover recovery and insolvency. Reported history is labelled when primary notices are unavailable.
03
Avoid invented scores
We do not assign fraud probabilities, recovery percentages or star ratings. Allegations, guilty pleas, convictions, regulator conclusions and business decisions have different evidential meanings.
Read recovery information carefully
A trading shutdown does not settle whether a particular customer can recover funds. Check the appointed administrator or the operator’s verified notice for current conditions. Do not send seed phrases or pay an unsolicited “unlock” fee. An old exchange domain can change hands.
Documented examples include Mt. Gox, Cryptsy, BTC-e, QuadrigaCX, Cryptopia, FTX, LocalCryptos, LocalBitcoins, Bitzlato, Bittrex US, Bittrex Global, Hotbit, Txbit, LocalMonero / AgoraDesk, DMM Bitcoin, Paxful, NoOnes and BitMEX. This directory is an expanding research collection, not a complete worldwide census.
Does a closed exchange mean it was a scam?
No. Business wind-downs, insolvencies, security incidents, enforcement actions and asset transfers are different events. A fraud conclusion needs supporting evidence. This page attributes court findings, regulator conclusions, admissions and allegations separately.
What date does the timeline use?
Each entry names its milestone: trading cessation, final service deadline, insolvency disclosure, court filing, liquidator appointment or asset transfer. A bankruptcy date is not automatically the last trading date. Where only a month is supported, the page displays a month rather than an invented day.
Can customers still withdraw from a closed exchange?
Sometimes. Trading can end while withdrawals, claims or distributions continue. Conditions and deadlines differ by platform and may change. Use the linked official notice or appointed administrator, and verify the destination before submitting personal information.
Why is there no fraud score or star rating?
A numerical fraud score would imply a level of precision this evidence cannot support. Source labels and case-specific legal notes show what is documented without rating customer losses, criminal guilt or the likelihood of recovery.
Are temporary outages and country exits counted?
Temporary pauses, delistings and country-only exits by otherwise operating platforms are excluded. Bittrex US is retained as a separately closed legal operation. LocalMonero and AgoraDesk share one record because they had a joint wind-down. Lenders without an exchange service are outside the current scope.
