LocalMonero and AgoraDesk stopped accepting new trades on 14 May 2024. Their joint wind-down began a week earlier, with 7 November 2024 set as the deadline for account access and recovering remaining funds.

Monero itself continued operating. The Monero Blocks explorer reports 834,099 network transactions in September 2026, about 11% more than the 751,421 recorded in September 2025. Those are blockchain transactions, not LocalMonero trades or unique users.

The distinction matters. A marketplace can close while the cryptocurrency it helped people buy continues to function. Both brands share one entry in Finlazo’s closed crypto exchanges tracker, reflecting their joint closure process.

Why did LocalMonero and AgoraDesk close?

The team cited a combination of internal and external factors after almost seven years of operation. Its joint closure announcement did not identify a more specific single cause.

That leaves a limit on what can responsibly be reported. The announcement does not establish that a particular regulator ordered the shutdown, that a hack caused it or that customers collectively suffered a stated financial loss.

Readers should treat more detailed explanations as claims requiring their own evidence. Timing alone cannot show that one legal case, market event or exchange delisting caused another business to close.

Were LocalMonero and AgoraDesk the same platform?

The brands were connected. AgoraDesk described itself as a Bitcoin peer-to-peer platform created by the team behind LocalMonero. LocalMonero focused on Monero trading.

They were marketplaces where buyers and sellers arranged transactions, rather than simply a price chart with a central order book. Their closure notice addressed both services together.

For a former customer, the practical starting point is the account actually used. Keep the relevant brand, account identifier and trade references together. A record from one service should not automatically be treated as a statement from the other.

DateAnnounced changeCustomer significance
7 May 2024Wind-down began; new registrations and advertisements stoppedThe services stopped accepting new accounts and new trade advertisements.
14 May 2024New trades disabledExisting membership no longer provided a route to start another trade.
Before 7 November 2024Customers were instructed to reclaim arbitration-bond fundsThe notice warned that remaining funds could be treated as abandoned or forfeited after the deadline.
7 November 2024Announced account-access and dispute-handling deadlineTrades were to be finalised or cancelled before this date.
After 7 November 2024Announced website takedown periodThis was the published schedule, rather than evidence that every page disappeared at one precise moment.

These milestones come from the operator’s wind-down notice and the surviving LocalMonero shutdown banner.

The May trading cutoff and November access deadline served different purposes. Listing only November as the “closure date” would miss the earlier end of new trading.

What happened to funds in arbitration-bond wallets?

AgoraDesk’s historical FAQ explains that an online trade reserved cryptocurrency from the seller’s bond wallet. The bond supported dispute resolution if a seller accepted payment but failed to complete the transaction.

The same FAQ distinguishes that bond wallet from the settlement wallet supplied by a buyer. It says purchased coins were sent to the buyer’s settlement wallet. Those balances should not be treated as one undifferentiated “exchange wallet.”

The closure notice told customers to recover remaining arbitration-bond funds before the November deadline. It did not publish an audited total of outstanding customer balances or prove that every customer withdrew successfully.

That historical instruction is not a promise of an active withdrawal service in October 2026. A surviving guide, support page or search result cannot establish that a transaction can still be processed.

What should someone with an unresolved account issue retain?

Start with evidence you already hold. Avoid recreating a transaction history from memory when original records are available.

RecordWhat it can help establish
Account identifier and service nameWhich account and brand the issue concerns.
Trade identifiers and chat exportsThe agreed transaction and communications between participants.
Payment confirmationsWhat was paid, when and through which payment method.
Bond-wallet and settlement recordsWhich balance or destination was involved.
Blockchain transaction referencesWhether a recorded transfer can be located on the relevant network.
Support correspondenceWhat was reported and any response or case reference received.

The announced support period ended in November 2024. Any present-day claim to represent the old team should therefore be checked carefully against reliable records. This article cannot confirm a current recovery route for an unresolved balance.

Never disclose a wallet seed phrase or private key to someone claiming that a payment will “unlock” a closed marketplace account. Those credentials control a wallet; they are not ordinary evidence of a trade.

Recent Monero statistics: activity after the marketplace closure

The explorer’s monthly data, checked on 16 October 2026, show continued Monero activity. September’s 834,099 transactions were below August’s 875,006, but above September 2025’s 751,421.

The year-on-year increase is approximately 11.0%, calculated from those two September observations. October 2026 is still incomplete and is excluded from this chart.

Network activity cannot show how many former LocalMonero users moved elsewhere. Nor does a larger transaction count establish that buying XMR became easier, cheaper or available in every country.

How should former users compare another buying service?

Check the service actually being offered. A peer-to-peer marketplace, a broker and a self-custody swap tool can have different payment steps, custody arrangements and dispute procedures.

Before committing funds, establish who operates the service, whether your country is supported and which assets are currently available. Review the quoted amount, fees, payment-name requirements and withdrawal conditions.

Confirm the exact asset and network before sending crypto. A wallet address displayed on an old marketplace is not proof that a new provider accepts that destination or asset.

Finlazo’s Buy Crypto page is a place to explore assets and buying options. Check availability for your country and account. This article does not claim that Finlazo replaces LocalMonero’s XMR marketplace or can recover funds from either closed service.
