Paxful’s peer-to-peer marketplace has closed. The company set 1 November 2025 as the end of operations, and its remaining service now focuses on withdrawals from existing accounts. For former customers, the immediate question is how to retrieve an eligible balance—not when trading will restart.

The official withdrawal portal says buying, selling and trading have ended. It continues to provide a withdrawal request route and a way to check a request’s status. That limited service should not be confused with an operating exchange.

Paxful is included in Finlazo’s closed crypto exchanges tracker, which separates closure dates, stated reasons and customer access across discontinued platforms.

Why did Paxful close?

Paxful attributes its shutdown to misconduct involving former co-founders before 2023 and the unsustainable cost of compliance remediation. That is the explanation on its current closure notice. It describes the company’s position; it does not establish whether every individual balance can be released.

A marketplace can stop matching buyers and sellers while retaining a narrower process for handling customer assets. Paxful’s remaining withdrawal service illustrates that distinction. A page that still loads, or an account that still exists, is not evidence that peer-to-peer offers are available again.

The later U.S. enforcement announcements add important legal context. Their dates also matter: the November transition preceded the December resolution announcements and February sentencing.

Paxful closure timeline

DateDevelopmentWhy it matters
1 November 2025Paxful transitioned to limited operationsThe marketplace ceased to be an ordinary trading venue.
9 December 2025FinCEN announced a $3.5 million civil penaltyThe action addressed Bank Secrecy Act violations.
10 December 2025The Justice Department announced the criminal plea agreementPaxful Holdings Inc. agreed to a $4 million criminal penalty based on ability to pay.
10 February 2026Paxful Holdings Inc. was sentencedThe criminal penalty became part of the court’s sentence.
16 October 2026Withdrawal information checked for this articleThe official portal still describes withdrawal-only access.

The effective transition date appears in Paxful’s restricted-jurisdictions notice. The other milestones come from FinCEN’s announcement, the Justice Department’s December release and its sentencing announcement.

What did the U.S. authorities find?

FinCEN assessed its civil penalty against Paxful, Inc. and Paxful USA, Inc. The agency said the businesses admitted willful failures to register as a money services business, maintain an effective anti-money-laundering programme and file suspicious activity reports.

It also said Paxful facilitated more than $500 million in suspicious activity. That figure describes the activity identified by the regulator; it is not a calculation of money owed to former customers. FinCEN credited remediation efforts, including changes in leadership and a review of previously unreported transactions.

The criminal case concerned Paxful Holdings Inc. The Justice Department said the company pleaded guilty to conspiracies involving illegal prostitution under the Travel Act, the Bank Secrecy Act and transmission of criminal proceeds.

The department said the appropriate criminal penalty under the case’s facts and law was $112.5 million, but its financial analysis found the company could not pay more than $4 million. The court imposed that smaller amount on 10 February 2026.

Those are enforcement penalties. Neither announcement should be read as a promise that a particular user will receive a refund or a distribution from the fines.

Can customers still withdraw from Paxful?

Paxful’s limited-service agreement allows eligible withdrawals after identity and account ownership checks, subject to legal restrictions. Accounts with remaining assets have been placed into restricted or “banned” status for withdrawal-only access. That label alone does not establish personal wrongdoing.

Start at the official portal, select the withdrawal route and follow its current instructions. Keep the request reference and use the status-check option for an existing request. Do not assume a second submission will accelerate an unresolved application.

Before confirming a destination, check the asset, network and receiving address together. A recognisable coin symbol is not enough to establish that a receiving wallet supports the required network. Keep copies of the request, correspondence and eventual blockchain transaction reference.

Withdrawal fees and maintenance charges

Under section 8 of the current agreement, Paxful charges no withdrawal transaction fee, although blockchain network fees apply. A separate maintenance provision applies to qualifying banned accounts after 30 days’ notice: monthly charges are the greater of 3% of the balance at the ban date or $2.

The provision excludes accounts whose status prevents withdrawals; the portal also says regulatory-restricted accounts are exempt. Check the notice and status of your own account before applying that formula.

These are different costs. A network fee relates to sending a transaction. A maintenance charge relates to keeping a qualifying balance after the notice period. Treating them as one universal withdrawal fee would give customers the wrong picture.

Do not send funds to old Paxful addresses

Paxful’s legacy-address policy says discontinued deposit addresses are no longer monitored and that new deposits will not be credited or recovered through Paxful.

Remove saved Paxful destinations from payment routines, invoices and recurring transfers. If another person previously sent money to that address, tell them to stop using it. A withdrawal portal is not an invitation to make a fresh deposit.

What to check before choosing another platform

If you are considering another purchase, Finlazo’s Buy Crypto page is a place to explore assets and buying options. Check the live quote and the options available to your account before committing funds. Finlazo cannot release assets held in a Paxful account.
